What is a BMS?

The Special Weather Bulletin alerts sailors to upcoming gales. It is often called a BMS, and sometimes an Expert Weather Bulletin.
Météo-France issues one bulletin per zone for a set period of time (extendable). Each bulletin carries a unique number. It takes precedence over the regular bulletins throughout its validity period.

A crucial alert

The BMS is an essential tool for sailors, providing detailed information about the expected weather conditions, especially when strong winds (force 7 or higher) are forecast. These bulletins are issued to warn sailors of imminent dangers and encourage them to take appropriate safety measures.

Don’t forget to check your coastal bulletin or offshore bulletin after reading the Special Weather Bulletin, as they are much more detailed.
